Flowers of Remembrance - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier  (Commemoration Activities)
8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington National Cemetery, 1 Memorial Ave, Fort Myer, VA 22211

Flowers of Remembrance provides members of the public with the unique opportunity to actually walk onto the plaza at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, stand where only Tomb Sentinels stand every other day of the year, and place a flower at the Tomb.

The only thing you need to do to participate is go to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery on Sunday, 24 May 2026, and follow the direction of our volunteers. Our team will have already purchased the flowers, prepared them for distribution, set up the site, and be in position to help you navigate through the line. While you're in line, you'll get to engage with our volunteers who can offer you information about the ceremony and the Tomb.

Take advantage of this special opportunity on Sunday, 24 May 2026, and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Benson-Hammond House, 7101 Aviation Blvd, Linthicum, MD 21090
The Benson-Hammond House in Linthicum, MD, is having an event focused on the Civil War in Maryland: "MD Connections to the War Between the States at the BHH." Learn about the Benson-Hammond House at their website: https://aachs.org/benson-hammond-house/

In addition to information on local battles and their impact, names of soldiers, etc, this will be an opportunity to meet representatives from various heritage societies. Also, the band the Overtones will be there, playing Appalachian style music- think fiddle, banjo, dulcimer- songs of the era.

Our member, Jan Sharik Baker, is the lead volunteer for the Benson-Hammond House and coordinates their public events. She hopes that some members of our Tent would be able to be there to represent the DUVCW-DC, as it would be wonderful for visitors to know what we are all about.

Information about the event can be found on The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society website: https://aachs.org/upcoming-events/

If you would like to attend to represent our Department, please contact our Department President.
